About the Breed

The Sphynx is a truly unique and captivating breed of domestic cat, loved for both its striking appearance and affectionate personality. This extraordinary breed originated in Canada during the 1960s when a hairless kitten was unexpectedly born to an otherwise furry domestic cat. Breeders, intrigued by this rare trait, began carefully working to establish a line of hairless cats. Over time, through selective breeding, they created the Sphynx we know today—famous for its smooth, wrinkled skin and playful demeanor.

 

Unlike most cats, the Sphynx has no fur, making it one of the most instantly recognizable breeds. While some people find their hairlessness unusual, their fans adore these cats for their endearing personalities and striking looks. Instead of fur, their skin is covered with a fine layer of down, giving them a soft, velvety feel. Their muscular build, prominent cheekbones, oversized ears, and expressive eyes add to their distinct charm.
