Some catteries use the word 'Outstanding' without the actual certificate, so always verify directly via the official TICA Outstanding Catteries list. A reputable breeder names every test performed and states the result. They hold verifiable credentials such as TICA or GCCF, not just claims on a website. Red flags include no named test results, breeding every cycle, no verifiable accreditation, no educational content, and claims that cannot be checked independently. How many genetic tests should a Sphynx breeder perform?

Many breeders test for only 5 to 10 conditions, while some test for none at all and still use the phrase 'health tested' without specifics. Current laboratory panels allow screening for over 70 inherited conditions in Sphynx, including HCM (ALMS1), CMS, SMA, PKD, PRA, PK-Def, GSD4, BHK, and HR. But testing alone means nothing without results. IconicSX screens every breeding cat across the full panel, and every result is clear.

Yes. IconicSX contributes biological samples to ongoing research studying Dominant Blue Eye (DBE) variants. Samples from our cats have been provided to support DBE research with Prof. Marie Abitbol and to assist Certagen GmbH / VHL Genetics in the development of genetic testing approaches for DBE variants. Responsible breeding programmes do not just talk about genetics - they contribute data and biological material that help improve scientific understanding of the breed.

Can DBE Sphynx cats compete in TICA shows?

Under TICA rules, healthy heterozygous DBE Celestial and DBE Altai cats with no documented health consequence in peer-reviewed literature can be disqualified from the show ring for having blue or odd eyes. The Sphynx breed standard does not judge eye colour, and TICA requires no DNA testing before registration or competition. Since DBE is visually indistinguishable from KIT-associated blue and odd eyes in cats with Dominant White and White Spotted registrations, disqualification relies not on genetics but on what the breeder discloses or what is passed on through gossip, personal bias, or flagging by breed committee members who are themselves active competitors while also participating in decisions that shape the breed standard and determine disqualification policies. At the same time, Dominant White and White Spotted cats with blue and odd eyes, carrying a scientifically confirmed link to congenital deafness at rates often cited between 60 and 80 percent and an association with Waardenburg-like presentations, continue to compete without restriction, without mandatory BAER testing, and without disqualification. This is not a fair or consistent standard. It is discrimination against transparent breeders working with a genetically sound trait while cats carrying documented health risks compete freely. While show titles and rosettes have never been our measure of quality, we consider this practice fundamentally unjust and incompatible with fair competition.

At IconicSX, the health and genetic integrity of every Sphynx is the foundation of the breeding programme.

Health is not treated as a marketing term, but as the basis for every breeding decision.

All breeding cats are screened for more than 70 inherited conditions through accredited genetic laboratories. Annual HCM cardiac scans are performed by a veterinary cardiologist. To date, all results have been normal.

BAER hearing assessments are carried out for all cats and kittens, confirming bilateral hearing.

Routine screening is also performed for FIV, FeLV, coronavirus, toxoplasmosis and upper respiratory infections.

Testing only has value when results are documented and shared. Every adopting family receives full documentation, including original laboratory certificates linked to the kitten’s microchip and complete records of all tests performed.

Our breeding programme is built on documented lineage, verified registration, and long-term genetic planning. We work with carefully selected lines, including foundations from established Russian catteries, combined with our DBE Celestial line developed at IconicSX.

IconicSX Selina Kyle and her father Vincent both hold GCCF Champion titles. Selina became the first DBE Sphynx to achieve a GCCF Championship, and both cats have received multiple Best of Breed awards as well as Top 1–3 placements in GCCF Miscellaneous Classes. Our foundation lines also include Champion and Grand Champion titles across international registries.

All kittens bred at IconicSX are registered with GCCF and TICA, with transparent pedigrees and fully traceable ancestry. For us, pedigree is not simply a certificate but a documented record of lineage, structure, and responsibility within the breeding programme.
